Happy Noruz, Now Duck and Cover

Greetings, friends,
Yep, along with all the other celebrations around the vernal equinoxe, it's the ancient Persian celebration of Noruz, which involves some complex and interesting table settings:

You'd think with the unfolding disaster in Iraq (and regardless of what they say on the news, any information from the street will tell you that in the conduct of daily life, it is a disaster) our government would let the Persians be for a while, at least to celebrate this holiday (and to give the tiny middle class a chance) but it is not to be.

They're not permitted to elect the government of their choosing or do business with other countries of their own choosing; it's all right for the United States to sell nuclear technology to India (a neighbor of Iran and not signatory to the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty) or to Israel (within missile range of Iran and also not signatory to the NPT) but they, of course, are not fit even for a reactor.

Not that the Persians need such a weapon, but I am far more afraid of Pakistan than Iran; Iran is a relatively sophisticated, educated country, with a lot of unhappy young people contemplating elected reforms, but Pakistan is a dictatorship and a powder keg full of guns and heroin.

O'Reilly : Blowing Iran "off the face of the earth ... would be the sane thing to do"
On his radio program, Bill O'Reilly stated: "You know in a sane world, every country would unite against Iran and blow it off the face of the Earth. That would be the sane thing to do."

I really doubt the Persians are much of a threat to us at present (thanks, Ellen):

Nor are they all (except their idiot president) as interested in provoking destruction as, say, North Korea:

Iran may not, by their threat to reprice oil in euros, be the threat to our debt that some may have stated:
